About sharmaine
Although only 19-years-old, Sharmaine Landy knows what she wants out of life and is not afraid to proclaim it.
The Bermuda College student, who is currently enrolled in the Business Administration Associates Program, aspires to establish a career in fashion, but wants to obtain a degree in Business Administration as well.
“I have been sketching clothing designs since I was about 11 and began to learn how to sew at age 13. I would like to become a designer but right now I want to focus on a business degree as a backup. If I can study both business and design once I go abroad, I would gladly make use of that advantage,” she says. “My ultimate career goal is to one day be the proud owner of a fashion line and possibly one or two exclusive stores.”
Armed with a passion for singing, Sharmaine also says that she enjoys writing poetry: “It allows me to express myself without boundaries…I write mostly about my relationships with the opposite sex but I also write about my feelings, surroundings and the things in the world that trouble me.”
When asked what has been her greatest accomplishments in life so far, without hesitation Sharmaine responds that it was undoubtedly when she won the Ms CedarBridge crown a couple of years ago.
“It was an honour to be selected as a role model for my entire school and I will never forget that night for as long as I live.”

She also adds that she is extremely proud to be in the first class to graduate under the revamped (BSC) programme in the government school system.
“As the first class to undergo the changes we were often referred to as guinea pigs and test subjects, but we still rose to the occasion and the majority of those who remained (at the school) graduated with honours and lifetime achievements. On that day I was as proud as a peacock!”
When asked what qualities she looks for in her ideal mate, Sharmaine says: “I need someone who understands my drive for success. I am a very dedicated young lady to my education and achieving my many goals in life, so I need a man who is going to support me and stand beside me understanding that I need space to grow but that I also need the stability of commitment when things get rough.
“In addition to that important characteristic, I need my mate to be goal-orientated himself, a fairly neat and well-kept individual, spontaneous, romantic and down to earth so that he can keep me in line when I get rich and famous (she laughs).”
This young woman has head firmly planted on her shoulders. And what feeling does she hope to impart on all who meet her?
“I hope to leave with them the impression that I am a driven young lady, full of hopes and dreams and ready to take on the world!”
