:: About Niamah

True beauty is so rare in our times. With a world which is all flashiness and superficiality, sincere warmth and feminine strength seems impossible to find.
Yet with her soft-spoken grace Niamah Denbrook need only say hello and you realize that beauty can truly be found far beneath the surface of the skin.
In a life that exhibits amazing strength and enthusiasm Niamah has mapped a path all her own. As she says: “Life is a journey not a destination.” Fortunately for the rest of us though, she has chosen to share her gifts along the way.
Working at the Berkeley Institute, she is in a position to shape Bermuda’s future and is filled with hope for the Island’s tomorrow:
“I feel like Bermuda has a great future if we invest time in our youth. They are the future. There is so much potential in every child ”
Born in Bermuda 26 years ago, Niamah’s childhood and young adulthood spanned three countries but taught her that “no matter what circumstances life gives you ANYTHING is possible.”
Living in England for five years, Niamah returned to Bermuda for a few years of high school at the Bermuda Institute. But she was soon off again, this time to finish her secondary school education at the Highland View Academy in Hagerstown, Maryland. She stayed in the U.S to complete her undergraduate degree at Delaware State University, where she majored in Elementary Education.
But Niamah’s destiny was not teaching but counseling Bermuda’s youth. Completing her Masters of Education at Loyola College, Niamah is now a guidance counselor at the Berkeley Institute.
Not too many people have managed to stay true to themselves and say they really feel satisfied with their jobs. But by channeling her warmth and strength into guiding her students Niamah can happily say “I enjoy my job and love what I do.”
“When I was in high school I had an excellent counselor named Sheila Holder She really influenced me in a positive way and always was willing to listen to me. I thought that I wanted to make a difference in someone’s life the same way she made a difference in mine”

As with any satisfying job, counseling brings with it a very weighty responsibility but Niamah has managed balance her job with the rest of her life.
“Being a counselor can be a heavy job emotionally. I always try to leave my work at work. My time is my time. I make time for myself first, family and friends, and of course my significant other who I love and adore.”
But how does this very successful former Miss Tourism unload the burdens of her day? “My number one stress reliever is spending time and venting to my friends. Shopping and exercising helps too.”
But as far as shopping goes, don’t expect this true individual to follow any crowd. She has a look all her own. “You know what, I have my own style. I love clothes, and decorating. I'm very eclectic. I take from a lot of different styles.”
It takes a special strength to live life on your own terms. For Niamah it means escaping the world in a peaceful haven she has created. It’s in her bedroom that she gathers the warm energy she carries through her day.
“Anyone who really knows me knows that my bedroom is my favorite room. I spend the majority of my time at home in there. It is a place of relaxation, beauty, and love. I really don’t like to argue or talk about negative things in there.”
Ask her what the future holds and Niamah is filled with optimism. “I feel like I have a wonderful future ahead of me. I have a positive outlook, and I know that anything I want is within my reach.
In five years time I definitely see myself married with at least one child. Still counseling and moving forward in my career. I also see myself working towards a Doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology.”
As she looks down her path to the future, Niamah can’t help recalling what she has lessons she has learnt so far in life. “My personal words of wisdom to myself is that Everything happens for a reason. If something doesn't turn out the way you want it to, learn a lesson from it. No experience is time wasted.”
“Being #1 at everything is not so important, but being the best we can be is what really matters.”
